GRAPH-FRP is non-halogen based on phosphorus and nitrogen. It is specially developed for water and solvent based paints 60 minutes fire rating. It forms carbon foam and cut off oxygen source and extinguish flame immediately. It has characteristics as low - density low smoke. Non-halogenated flame retardants are additives used in polymers/paints to increase fire resistance in case of ignition and slow down the spread of fire. Non-halogenated flame retardants do not make a polymer non-combustible; they help resist fire and generate less heat.
Halogenated vs Non-Halogenated Flame Retardants
Most of the flame retardants for Plastics/Polymer are halogen-based. Halogen is a group of chemical elements that contains elements such as chlorine, bromine and iodine, which everyone has heard about. Halogenated flame retardants are very effective, yet it has been proven that flame retardants that are halogen-free are safer for both individuals and the environment. As a result, many global regulations have been instated in a wide variety of industries, which specifically require manufacturers the use halogen-free flame retardants in plastic-based products.
WHAT IS PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION
The fundamental purpose of passive fire protection is to prevent the spread of fire and thus prevent/reduce the amount of damage to the structure or substrate.
HOW DOES NFR PAINT ADDITIVE WORK:
GRAPH-FRP is an additive mixture provides an appearance similar to that of a paint finish at ambient temperatures, they remain stable. However, in a fire situation, the increase in temperature causes a chemical reaction and coating expands to many times its original thickness (up to over 50 times). This provides an insulating foam-like coating or "char" which protects the substrate from fire.
WHERE IT CAN BE USED:
‘NFR’ additive (for water-based paints) can be used on walls and concrete and (for enamel paints) can be used on wood, steel etc. (i.e., wherever a paint is normally applied).
How to convert normal paint into NFR suitable for Water and Thinner based:
- 1. The amount by which NFR coatings retard a particular fire will depend, among other things, on 1. Pour Enamel Paint, Additive (650 to 750 parts for one Liter of Enamel Paint), water/thinner (125 ml for one liter of enamel paint) into a bucket.
- 2. Stir manually till it becomes a mixture
- 3. Paint is ready for application.
